This restaurant is right outside the ancient walls of the ruins at Paestum. Managed by a very cordial local, they serve the best ‘bufala’ cheeses and incredible pasta dishes. My favorite was the homemade tagliolini with mussels and fresh anchovies. A real tasty combination!! If you have dinner they serve focaccia with oregano instead of bread…a very unusual touch. The meal is superb, from the antipasti to the desserts

  • L'Angelico

L’Angelico, recently opened in fashionable Parioli next door to Roxy Cinema, is well deserving if its name. The food is heavenly and the service divine. Simple elegance defines the atmosphere which is perfect for an intimate dinner with a few friends or a larger party. The menu offers a fantastic array of appetizers, traditional and original pastas, all kinds of pizza and excellent grilled meat, imported from Denmark. L’Angelico also has a full cocktail bar and an impressive wine list. One visit was not enough to take it all in, so I’ll be going back soon, and frequently… Prices are average, if not a bit lower than average for the neighborhood. Via L. Luciani 52, tel 06-3203511. www.l-angelico.com

  • Capalbio

The town of Capalbio is small, but cozy. It is best during the month of September when the Sagra del Cinghiale (wild boar) is running, but can be enjoyed year-round. The fortress is empowering, but its open-doors are most definitely welcoming. You can enjoy a wide variety of restaurants and agricultural hotels that carry on the freshest produce. Don’t be afraid to get lost within the walls of the castle (it’s quite small).

John Bull’s is great for late night laughs or early drinking with the lads. The environment can be mixed, but mainly frequented by foreigners.

Go for an after-dinner “passeggiata” through Pzza. Navona and have a digestivo at the Bar della Pace. Great crowd and stroller atmosphere.

  • Great day trip from Rome

Sperlonga is a little bit more than an hour train ride outside of Rome. It is a very cute small beach town. There is a castle and other tourist attractions as well. But if you just want a relaxing quiet day outside the city, the town also has a very nice beach with lots of private beach clubs. It’s an enjoyable and inexpensive way to unwind on the weekend and leave the hustle and bustle of Rome behind you.

  • Like Swiss chocolate?

Inside the newly restored Galleria Alberto Sordi, there is a tiny Lindt chocolate shop. On any given Friday or Saturday night, the store is packed with Italians either treating themselves to good Swiss chocolate or buying a treat for a special someone. The store only sells Lindt brand chocolate. So if you have a craving for something sweet head on over to Galleria Alberto Sordi.

Not easy to find as it is hidden in a hallway on Via Frattina 59. If you’re lucky enough to find it, you’ll feel like you’ve walked into a little French boudoir with the most amazing hand-made bracelets, necklaces, rings, handbags, etc. If you want to have a real one-of-a-kind piece that everyone will envy, this is definitely a must stop. I had to be dragged out by my friend who was afraid I’d buy the whole store out!! Via Frattina 59, Tel 333 5025661
