“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” Inspired by these words of Aldous Huxley, The “September Concert” was born in 2002 on the first anniversary of 9/11.

Founded and chaired in New York by Haruko Smith, leader of numerous important social and cultural organizations, the Foundation has been organizing hundreds of free concerts throughout the world every September 11 on the anniversary of the attacks on the Twin Towers.

Since then, on each anniversary a message of peace through music has spread further and further. This year Rome is, once again, a part of this event with a varied program of free concerts organized by Compagnia per la Musica in Roma, Global Affiliate for Italy of the American Foundation September Concert.

The purpose of this initiative is to transform a date that globally symbolizes contrast and
conflict into a moment of peace and harmony through the celebration of music, a universal language that conquers all barriers and diversities.
